“Nursing is not for everyone. It takes a very strong, intelligent, and compassionate person to take on the ills of the world with passion and purpose and work to maintain the health and well-being of the planet. No wonder we’re exhausted at the end of the day!” – Donna Wilk Cardillo, The Inspiration Nurse
National Nurses Week, which kicked off with National Nurses Day on May 6th, has come and gone, concluding on Florence Nightingale’s 200th birthday on May 12th. That was immediately followed up by National Skilled Nursing Care Week, which continued to recognize and honor our nurses and all our team members throughout each one of our Touchstone Communities.
The theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week was “Sharing Your Wisdom” and this theme was embraced by The Heights of Bulverde for their Facebook page. They put together nuggets of wisdom from residents and team members and those posts were shared over the course of the week. They featured:
101-year-old Thelma McDonald: “Choose God first, be truthful, honest and work hard.”92-year-old Earnest Proffitt: “Get all the education you can! Never quit learning!”87-year-old Maureen Fairchild: “Live a good life and raise good and kind children.”Dietary team member Cora Kidd: “Believe in yourself and follow the path you love.”Speech Therapist Lesley Barnes: “Don’t forget, with God all things are possible.”
The celebration of nurses took on added importance this year given everything going on surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. As our nurses, and other frontline/healthcare team members, continue to make resident health and safety a top priority, we are truly fortunate to have dedicated team members in all areas of our organization. Our residents and team members are in very capable hands.
