Kindergartners Spread a Little Sunshine

At Floresville Independent School District, we are dedicated to instilling kindness and compassion in our students. Through the Rachel’s Challenge program we encourage everyone to reach out to one another through Random Acts of Kindness.

To celebrate how hard we have worked to be “good friends like Rachel,” the Floresville South Elementary kindergarten classes decided to reach out to the community and visit the local nursing homes. For letter D on the ABC countdown, we were to Donate and Do a good Deed … our good deed was bringing in items for the residents and writing cards for them.

In an effort to make a connection between the students and residents, “You are my sunshine” was written on some of the cards. One kindergartner presented his card to a resident and read to her what he had written. The resident then sang that song to him! It was truly a touching moment!

Thank you to Mrs. Herrera at the Floresville Residence & Rehabilitation Center for being an outstanding escort. Thank you to the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home, Regency Manor, and the Floresville Residence & Rehabilitation Center for opening your doors to us and letting us visit! We look forward to next year!
