ETX Veterans make homemade doggie treats for Humane Society

TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV)- Veterans in East Texas are making their very own dog treats to donate to the Humane Society of East Texas.

Logan-Watkins Texas State Veterans Home is doing their part to help the dogs in the East Texas community.

For some, it’s their first time dabbling in making dog biscuits.

“Oh, I’ve been rolling the dough out to make dog biscuits,” says US Army Veteran, Alvin Carver.

The dough, which kind of resembles peanut butter cookie dough, is made up of some ingredients many of us have probably used when making human cookie: whole wheat flour, peanut butter, milk and oatmeal.

“Smells good doesn’t it, and they look like peanut butter cookies,” says volunteer, Dale Allen.

Carver says dogs have always been a pretty big part of his life.

” I used to have hunting dogs, I had hunting pets,” says Carver.

“I love working with senior citizens; these are special people who served our country,” says Allen.

Now they’re doing their part to serve the dog community here in East Texas.

“We’re rolling it out, cutting it and then we’ll bake it. Then we’ll put them in the jars and this is the finished product. We hope the dogs enjoy them,” says Allen.
