San Antonio’s Touchstone Communities buys another skilled nursing center

San Antonio-based Touchstone Communities has purchased another skilled nursing center, expanding its portfolio of health care facilities.

The company has acquired Pine Shadow Retreat, a 126-bed care facility located in the Montgomery County community of Porter near U.S. Highway 59. The ownership change took effect Nov. 1.

“We are excited that Pine Shadow Retreat, with its longstanding tradition of offering exceptional care since its opening in 1964, is becoming the 22nd member of the Touchstone family of communities,” said the company’s CEO, Stan Studer Jr.

Pine Shadow Retreat provides nursing care support, respiratory care and complex pain management. The facility has nearly 90 employees.

Touchstone, headquartered in San Antonio, has more than 2,500 employees across the state who provide skilled nursing, rehabilitation and Alzheimer’s care. The company operates care centers in Brenham, Cotulla, Del Rio, Gonzales, Houston, La Vernia, Laredo, Pleasanton, Rockdale, San Antonio, Snyder, Tomball and Tyler. It also manages long-term care facilities for veterans in Amarillo, Big Spring, Bonham, El Paso, Floresville, McAllen, Temple and Tyler.
