San Antonio Woman Celebrates 105th Birthday

KENS5 – Andrew Moore, 1:14 p.m. CDT September 15, 2014

What is the secret to a long life? San Antonio resident Amada Mora might just have the answer.

“There is no secret, other than loving the Lord and being with my family,” Mora said.

Mora should know. She just turned 105 on Saturday.

The San Antonio resident celebrated her 105th birthday with friends and family at The Heights on Huebner senior community. Her loved ones teamed up with Community Administrator Margaret Estes and Activity Director Diana Castellanos to have a community-wide party — complete with a vanilla birthday cake with buttercream icing and plenty of birthday cards.

“To be able to celebrate this with her, and to see her light up for her party, and to see her family there was an overwhelming experience,” Castellanos said.

Mora’s immediate family, church family, and community friends all showed up and sang the traditional “Las Mañanitas” birthday song. The Party also featured display of photos capturing the long life of Amada and local DJ Richard Gutin.

According to Castellanos, Amada Mora is currently the oldest member of the The Heights on Huebner senior community – the next oldest being 99 years of age.
