5 local D-Day vets to be honored at Texas State Veterans Home

TYLER, June 3, 2014— On the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler will honor the veterans who turned the tide during World War II.

Four residents of the home – Austeen V. Bice, Richard D. Carter, Homer C. Garrett, and Robert M. Moore – and special guest Claude Grisham of the Tyler area, will be presented certificates of honor at 2 p.m., Friday, June 6.

Commendations will come from the offices of Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman and Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, and U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony.
