U.S. News Ranks Local Community a Top Texas Skilled Nursing Facility

Bonham, Texas – U.S. News recently released its 2012 Honor Roll for skilled nursing facilities in an effort to help consumers choose nursing care for themselves or their loved ones.  Included in this year’s list was the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home located at 1300 Seven Oaks Road in Bonham.  The community, operated in a collaborative fashion between the General Land Office’s Veterans Land Board (VLB) and Touchstone Communities, was named one of the top 120 facilities in Texas, and received a 5-Star Rating, the highest possible, from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

"Texas State Veterans Homes work to provide the best care and we’re proud the Clyde W. Cosper home has earned this distinction,” said Kevin Warren, the VLB’s deputy commissioner of Veterans Homes. “The opportunity to serve the veterans of Texas and to see the dedication and commitment to those who have served be recognized is rewarding for all involved.”
The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home is one of eight long-term care communities designed specifically for veterans.  The VLB Texas State Veterans Homes provide affordable, long-term nursing care for Texas veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents. Conveniently located across Texas, each first-class facility, like the Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, is designed to enhance quality of life with a clean, caring and dignified setting appropriate to those men and women who have served our country with honor.

The five-star ranking earned by the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home is based on performances in the areas of health inspections, medical care, and nurse staffing.  Rankings are based on data contained in a CMS consumer-based web site called Nursing Home Compare.

“We are extremely honored and humbled by this recognition,” commented Timothy Miller, Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator (LNFA), who oversees the Cosper community.  “Serving those who have served our country and sacrificed their own well being is a privilege we take very seriously.  We’re proud that our community made the list of top nursing centers in Texas, and believe this represents a significant point of pride for the people of Bonham and the surrounding area,” Miller commented.

The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home is named after Army 2nd Lt. Clyde W. Cosper who gave his life to avoid crashing his B-17 bomber into an English village in November 1943 during World War II.  Lt. Cosper was honored with the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.  “This achievement is a testament to the valor of this outstanding military hero, and the men and women who make the mission of the Clyde W. Cosper Home a reality by delivering compassionate care through innovative approaches while creating family partnerships with our veterans, one generation at a time,” Miller added.
